Managing the risks of high-integrity systems

Air Traffic Management

The safety and efficiency of Air Traffic Management (ATM) has, in the past, depended primarily on the skills and professionalism of air traffic control staff. Whilst that continues to be the case today, the need to provide greater ATM capacity in the face of the inexorable increase in traffic levels can be satisfied only by increasing reliance on complex, software-intensive systems.

The increasing need for Air Traffic Service Providers (ATSP) to procure and integrate complex software-intensive systems requires specialist and dedicated skills for the management of safety throughout the system specification, design, development, integration and commissioning processes and the subsequent in-service system operation and maintenance.

At CSE International Ltd we have a proven record of providing for the needs of ATSP’s and equipment suppliers, from airport control towers to complete area control centres. We have also assisted ATM safety regulatory authorities in the UK and Europe with the specification of safety management and safety-approval requirements.

CSE can supply specialist personnel to support the procurement of software-intensive systems. We have considerable experience of managing the problems associated with large numbers of suppliers; ensuring project visibility to senior management; monitoring the development process; and identifying and resolving technical and programme-risk issues.
